CXN_Meeting with Designated Ambassador Mr Borrowman

Dear Mr Nguyen

Thank you for your email.  As I indicated, Mr Borrowman’s schedule is extremely tight.   In response to your proposal, however, Mr Borrowman could see you at 1045 tomorrow at Victorian State Office (Level 14, Casselden Place, 2 Lonsdale Street, Melbourne), but the meeting would have to be strictly limited to 15 minutes as it is being inserted between other meetings.

I’d be grateful for your advice if you are able to accept this timing.

Many thanks

Dear Mr. Oakes,

Thank you for your email below, confirming the unfortunate situation.

We only became aware of the visit of the designated Ambassador via our member, Mr. Giang of Vietnamese Australian Welfare Association (he wears 2 hats).

We were the people who presented on the recent (24.02.2012) Parliamentary Enquiry into the Dialogues of Vietnam FOREIGN AFFAIRS, DEFENCE AND TRADE JOINT COMMITTEE.

We believed that even with 15 minute – session, we can provide some useful input for the Designated Ambassador (DA) to equip him in his new job.

Please ask the DA for a reconderation,

Thank and regards,

Chau Xuan Nguyen

Dear Mr Nguyen

I refer to your correspondence to Mr Hugh Borrowman, Australian Ambassador-Designate to Vietnam, seeking a possible meeting in Melbourne.

Unfortunately, Mr Borrowman has a full schedule in Melbourne and will be unable to meet on this occasion, but would be happy to do so during his next visit.

In the meantime, you will already be aware that Mr Borrowman has meet representatives of both the Vietnamese Australian Welfare Association and the Vietnamese Community Association of NSW.  We understand these groups included at least one member of Bloc 8406.  More generally, they gave a comprehensive overview of the issue of concern to the Vietnamese Community in Australia as regards the human rights situation in Vietnam, among other issues.

Kind Regards

Gerard Oakes
